
There is tension in Kebbi State as armed bandits have reportedly kidnapped the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Samaila Bambu.
The incident happened on Friday evening in Bagudo, his hometown in Bagudu Local Government Area.
Local residents said the attackers stormed the area and whisked him away before security operatives could intervene.
Fear and confusion spread through the community as news of the abduction circulated.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, confirmed receiving the report when contacted. He noted that he was still awaiting a security update.
“Yes, I just got the information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening. I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state. Once I get the details of what transpired, I will alert you very soon on the government’s position,” Idris said.
He assured that authorities were already responding to the situation. “I can assure you that the state government is on top of the situation and will ensure he is released safely.”
Nevertheless, security personnel have reportedly been deployed to the area as efforts to locate the lawmaker intensify.
