Bandits kidnap many commuters in Katsina

A yet-to-be-ascertained number of commuters have been kidnapped by bandits on Katsina-Jibia Road in Katsina State.

POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the attack occurred on Wednesday, around 5 pm at Kadobe village.

It was learnt that the outlaws, numbering about 20, came on about six motorcycles, blocked two vehicles, and shot sporadically into the air before abducting the occupants of two vehicles.

“They were not more than 20 in number because they came on about six motorcycles. They did not use any roadblock but rather stood on the road with their guns and started shooting in the air.

“That led two of the vehicles to lose control and veered off the road and the gunmen eventually abducted the occupants,” a source said.

Over the last decade, groups of armed bandits have kidnapped, tortured and killed hundreds of people across northwest and central Nigeria, demanding ransoms and looting citizens, rich and poor. Consequently, millions of people have been displaced.

In January, the federal government proscribed them as “terrorists”, as part of measures to contain growing insecurity across the north.
