Six family members of prominent Islamic cleric, Sheikh Bashar Danfili, have been abducted by suspected bandits.
The victims, which include the cleric’s mother, stepmother, two wives, a sister, and a male relative, were kidnapped while travelling to a nearby village, according to multiple reports.
Speaking to Daily Trust, Sheikh Danfili revealed that the bandits have demanded an enormous ransom for the release of his family members, but he has been unable to meet the demands so far.
“The bandits have kidnapped my close relatives. I don’t want to disclose their names.
“They were on their way to a village when they were attacked and kidnapped,” he said.
The cleric also revealed that the driver who was transporting his relatives was killed on the spot by the assailants, who then fed his body to their dogs.
“Their driver was killed on the spot, and the bandits fed their dogs with his flesh,” Sheikh Danfili said.
The cleric did not disclose how much ransom the kidnappers demanded but described it as a “huge amount” beyond his ability to pay.
