Gunmen suspected to be bandits have gone on the rampage again, abducting several people along Ruma village in Batsari Local Government area of Katsina State.
Poliicsnigeria gathered that the victims, involved are mostly traders. The gunmen kidnapped the victims on Sunday evening about five kilometers away from Gobirawa town, while they were returning from the famous Jibia Border Market.
According to the locals, over thirty persons were kidnapped.
Meanwhile, the state police command spokesman, Gambo Isah, in a statement, said the figure is exaggerated.
Isah revealed that the bandits numbering about 60 armed with AK 47 rifles, blocked Jibia – Batsari road stopped two buses and took the occupants of the vehicles into the bush.
According to him, a search party led by operation puff adder went after the hoodlums and succeeded in rescuing almost all the victims, except seven.
Isah, therefore, assured that the police are currently combing the bush to rescue the remaining victims.
The Katsina state government had recently granted amnesty to some of the bandits and kidnapers arrested in the state.
