At least seven villages near Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, have been invaded and set ablaze by armed bandits since Saturday.

The attacks were revealed in a post on Sunday by security analyst Bakatsine via X (formerly Twitter).

According to him, the affected communities include Bargaja, Makera, Kahuta, Hayin Mai Cibi, Yar Geba, Hayin Yakubu, and Unguwar Mata—all located in Gusau Local Government Area.

Bakatsine wrote: “Since Saturday, bandits have burnt seven villages near Gusau, Zamfara: Bargaja, Makera, Kahuta, Hayin Mai Cibi, Yar Geba, Hayin Yakubu and Unguwar Mata.”

He also reported fresh assaults on Sunday evening near Mada village, further raising fears among residents about the proximity of the violence to Gusau town.

In a related incident, a key road in neighbouring Katsina State has been shut down due to increasing bandit attacks.

The affected route connects Mararrabar Maigora through Maigora, Sabon Layi Galadima, Fankama, and Faskari to Ƴankara.

According to Bakatsine, on Saturday alone, four people were shot and several others abducted along this road.

“The road from Mararrabar Maigora through Maigora, Sabon Layi Galadima, Fankama & Faskari to Ƴankara has been shut due to rising bandit attacks. Yesterday alone, they shot 4 people, and abducted several others,” he stated.

As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the attacks.
