Armed bandits have invaded Zugu community of Gummi Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara state, and abducted several worshippers in a mosque.
Mohammed Shehu, the Zamfara police spokesman, confirmed the attack to POLITICS NIGERIA but said the State Police Command has not been able to ascertain if it was a mosque that was invaded because the village is in a remote location.
“We have a report stating that bandits abducted people from the village. It is a remote village, so we’re not sure if it’s a mosque that was attacked,” he said.
This newspaper learned that the terrorists disguised as fellow worshippers before carrying out their criminal acts. The Imam was about to start delivering sermon when they suddenly brought out their guns.
No one was killed in the attack.
Hundreds of citizens have been abducted in mass kidnappings in Nigeria’s northwest region since 2020. Most have been freed or released after ransoms were paid but dozens are still being held.
