Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has officially appointed his elder brother, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed, as the Emir of the newly created Duguri Emirate.

The appointment was confirmed during a ceremony held on Friday at the Duguri Palace in Alkaleri Local Government Area.

Secretary to the State Government, Aminu Hammayo, presented the appointment letter to the new monarch on behalf of the governor.

Hammayo, while addressing the gathering, urged the new Emir to uphold justice, peace, and unity among his people. He also advised him to continue supporting government policies and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents across the state.

Responding, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed expressed deep appreciation to the governor for the confidence reposed in him. He promised to promote peace, education, and healthcare within the Duguri Emirate while preserving the rich culture and traditions of the people.

The new Emir, popularly known as “Yaya Adamu,” is a retired Assistant Controller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and previously served as the District Head of Duguri before his elevation.

He currently holds the position of Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), where he has been actively involved in tackling the issue of out-of-school children.

Alhaji Adamu’s appointment follows the recent signing of a law by Governor Bala Mohammed, which established 13 additional emirates and chiefdoms across Bauchi State.

The governor explained that the move was to “address perceived injustices and foster unity among diverse groups,” while strengthening traditional institutions as partners in governance and community development.

At the same event, the Secretary to the State Government also presented a letter of appointment to Alhaji Jibrin D. Hassan, who was named the new Emir of Bununu Emirate.

He encouraged the royal father to promote peace, uphold the rule of law, and work closely with the state government for progress and stability.
