
The former governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has cancelled his birthday celebration following tne incessant killings in communities across the state.
Ortom in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 23, said all activities planned to mark his 64th birthday anniversary are cancelled.
According to Ortom, with the killings of farmers and their families across seven Local Government Areas of the state, he has decided not to go ahead with any form of celebration.
“In light of the ongoing intensified invasion, attacks, and senseless killing of innocent Benue people by Fulani terrorists across various local government areas, Ortom has decided not to hold any celebration or festivities,” Ortom said.
In a statement by his media Aide, Terver Akase, the former governor said he had chosen the occasion to stand in solidarity with the victims of the attacks and killings.
Also sending his sympathy to the families of the victims he said the people of Benue State will continue to pray for them.
He also urged key stakeholders in the state, security operatives and their agencies to seek ways to end the carnage.
Also praying for God’s intervention, the former governor prayed for wisdom and divine guidance to end the killings.
Ortom expressed gratitude to God Almighty “for his mercy, good health, and blessings over the past 64 years, and as well reaffirms my commitment and dedication to the service of God and humanity in the years ahead.”
