Benue under siege as herdsmen kill several villagers in coordinated attacks

Suspected herdsmen launched a deadly attack on Tyoshin community in Naka, headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State, on Sunday night, leaving several people feared dead.

Residents said the attackers stormed the community under the cover of darkness, unleashing terror on unsuspecting villagers.

As of the time of filing this report, the exact number of casualties remained unclear, but eyewitnesses described the incident as brutal and devastating.

One of the victims has been identified as Monday Dooden, a native of the area.

Dooden’s brother, Akawe Francis, confirmed the killing in a post on social media.

“Monday Dooden, my brother, we ran away from the village because of Fulani attacks to Naka over 10 years ago, but we didn’t escape. Last night you were killed by the same Fulani,” he wrote.

A similar attack also occurred earlier on Sunday in Edikwu Ankpali, Apa Local Government Area, where many were also reportedly killed.

The attacks have further heightened tensions in Benue, a state that has suffered repeated episodes of violence linked to armed herdsmen in recent years.

  1. Why is the government not sending a battalion of soldiers there.Must they wait until it becomes borno state to act?.

  2. And why is the government treating the fulanis with kid gloves,if it’s the east or south/south they would have unleashed the greatest force on them.

  3. What the fulanis are doing in Benue is Ethnic cleansing, and the people of Benue should rise up to defend themselves and their land.
