Former leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Mujaheed Asari Dokubo has said that the name ‘Biafra’ has nothing to do with the Igbos.
Dokubo, in a brief interview with Arise Television, monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA on Wednesday, revealed that the term ‘biafra’ was coined by an Ijaw man and was originally proposed by the Ijaws and not the Igbos. He also criticized the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra, IPOB for wanting to create an ‘Igbo biafra’.
He said; “Ijaw is Biafra. Ijaws are divided between the Bight of Benin and and the Bight of Biafra. We are the owners of Biafra. Biafra is an Ijaw name, we own it”
“The territory identified as Biafra is Ijaw. Maybe a little ibibios towards the end and Oron people.”
“The real Biafra, the name Biafra, the geographical location Biafra is Ijaw and a little Oron and a little bit Ibibio.”
“In 1967, the eastern ijaws were part of Eastern region. An Eastern consultative assembly was convoked in Enugu and Francis, an ijaw man gave the name ‘Biafra’, moved the motion that Biafra should be adopted. Francis Opigo, and Biafra was adopted on the 30th of May 1967, the republic of Biafra was declared which included the eastern Ijaw within our territory.”
“So, Biafra has nothing to do with Igbos”
“The Biafran state that was declared in 1967 was not an Igbo state.”, he said.
He just spoke the truth for once, what he said is the original truth.
The only good thing Asari said, which is damn true, is that Biafra is not an igbo nation state but a nation of nations that includes d igbo and d ijaw. At no time did d igbo sit together to come up with a nation called Biafra, and the same applies to d ijaw. Biafra as a nation came to be in 1967 out of sheer necessity for survival amongst nations soon to be known as Biafrans, that is, may we survive with our freedom and independence from d rest of nigeria who were killing us left and right in their nigeria. So Biafra is a “survival ” nation state not a tribal nation state; it is infact a survival ideology not a political ideology, and all lovers of survival, freedom, liberty and dignity or sanctity of d individual, are Biafrans. Anybody who can stand up and say “never again to senseless or brutal massacre of people from eastern region” is a Biafran. May God bless Frank Opigo, an ijaw man, abundantly for recommending d name Biafra for all d people who stood up against senseless massacre and oppression, killings and oppressions such as is currently in today’s SS and SE.
My opinion is that if the Ijaws want to leave Nigeria they need to get busy while the rod is hot. I am 100 percent certain that the Fulanis will not give you any room for agitation after Biafra exits Nigeria. A good template of what is to come is the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa just for speaking out against injustice. Now, remember that the Fulanis have been saying all along to those who care to listen that Nigeria was given to them by their Allah and by extension all the mineral resources. You may think they are joking but they dominate the Nigeria military just in case any section of Nigerian will rise up to challenge their ownership. I do not think that Edwin Clark with all his experience will make a good leader because he has benefited so much financially from this terrorist Fulani government.
