Binance executive arrested by FG tipped for high-profile U.S. govt post under Trump

Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance executive and former federal agent, is reportedly being considered for a prominent role in the U.S. government under the incoming Trump administration.

Gambaryan, who served as Binance’s financial crime compliance director for the past two years, was previously arrested and illegally detained in Nigeria for eight months before his release.

With extensive experience in cryptocurrency crime investigations, Gambaryan is seen as a strong contender for key positions, such as heading the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s crypto assets division or taking a leadership role within the FBI’s cyber division.

His recommendation reportedly emanated from members of the Trump transition team connected to the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, attended by Trump himself.

Speaking about his potential return to public service, Gambaryan expressed enthusiasm, saying he would be honoured to serve the United States again in combating crypto-related crimes.

Before his tenure at Binance, he was part of the federal government’s early elite cryptocurrency tracking group, handling high-profile investigations during Trump’s first term.

Binance CEO Richard Teng acknowledged the speculation but stated, “As of now, Gambaryan is still our employee. I’m not privy to his plans or the U.S. government’s decision-making process.”
