No fewer than 15 persons have died as a 24-passenger commercial bus collided with a truck along the Lagos-Badagry expressway on Sunday, July 9.
Moreover, reliable sources have it that about nine others were said to have been injured in the auto crash.
Reporting the tragedy on Sunday, Permanent Secretary Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed that the accident occurred at Agemuwo Bus Stop.
Oke-Osanyintolu explained that the disaster happened during a heavy rain downpour, adding that the bus driver was at high speed and driving recklessly when it lost control and ran into the truck.
According to him, 14 of the 24 passengers, including the bus driver, died on the spot, while one out of the nine injured later died.
His words: “The bus driver was said to be on a high speed and driving recklessly lost control and ran into an oncoming truck.
“Fourteen (14) out of the 24 passengers, including the bus driver, was confirmed dead on the spot, nine critically injured and all taken to General Hospital Badagry.
“Further information revealed one out of the injured nine was also confirmed dead at the Hospital.
“All corpses have been deposited at the Hospital Morgue while the eight survivors are receiving treatment at the hospital intensive care unit.
“Both accidented vehicles have been cleared off the road and taken to the Police Station.”
