Blogger, Yahya Gambari remanded in prison

Young blogger, Yahya Gambari has been remanded in Ilesa Prison in Osun State, POLITICS NIGERIA understands.

Gambari, alongside his close associate, AbdulMutahaly Ismail, widely known as ‘Apoti Oro’ were both detained on the allegation of defamation of character.

The duo had appeared before an Osogbo magistrate court earlier this month. At the time, they were arraigned on charges bordering on breach of peace and defamation of character.

Gambari and ‘Apoti Oro’ were accused of posting defamatory comments on social media against one Engineer Azeez Ibrahim and his family. Both were said to have accused the plaintiff and his family of planning to eliminate them through the help of hired assassins.

According to the charge sheet, the defendants and others at large committed the offence in the month of September 2021.

The alleged offence contravened Section 24(2) of the Cybercrime Act, Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2015 and Sections 514, 375 and 249 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
