Borno govt reacts as terorists kill 40 farmers in Kukawa LGA

The government of Borno State on Monday, January 13, condemned the killing of 40 farmers in Kukawa Local Government Area of the state by Boko Haram terrorists.

Describing the killing of the farmers as an act of terrorism, Usman Tar, the commissioner for information and internal security said the Sunday, January 13, attack is a sad one.

Tar stated that the governor of the state, Babagana Zulum has further directed security agencies and the Armed Forces in the state to swing into action, apprehend and neutralise the terrorists operating in the state.

He also said that efforts are being made by the state to reunite members of families who were separated following the attack by the terrorists on the farmers.

Tar said, “It was observed that the farmers strayed off the security corridor established by the security agencies, and went into an enclave that is yet to be cleared.

“Such enclaves are usually prone to nocturnal attacks by marauding terrorists, as well as being contaminated with landmines. Gov Zulum called on citizens not to venture beyond the safety zones that are demarcated by the government and security agencies,” he added.

He further warned that lands for safe farming and other economic activities have been clearly demarcated by the government and should be strictly adhered to.

Commending security agencies for the or efforts, the state government urged farmers and fishermen Like to ensure they carry out their legitimate activities within the ‘safe corridors’ mapped out.
