BREAKING: 20 Abducted Medical Students Rescued In Benue

The 20 medical students kidnapped in Benue State on their way to a program in Enugu State have been rescued.

The rescue mission involved a combined effort of security agencies, including the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and military personnel and equipment, with support from the Benue State government.

The details of the rescue operation remain sketchy, as of press time.

The abduction of the 20 medical students occurred on Thursday evening, around 5:30 pm, in the Otukpo Local Government area of Benue State. The students were travelling in a convoy of two buses, en route to Enugu State for a program. Reports have it that as they passed through Benue, coming from the northern part of the country, they were ambushed by bandits, leading to their kidnapping.

Following their abduction, the captors established contact with the victims’ families, demanding a ransom of ₦50 million to secure the release of their hostages. However, responding to calls for the rescue of the students, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun promptly ordered the rescue of the victims.
