Ahead of its presidential primaries fixed for May 28 – 29, 2022, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday discarded zoning, thus throwing open its presidential ticket in respect of 2023.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the PDP NEC took the decision after its 96th meeting held at its National Secretariat in Abuja.
“After a very extensive deliberation NEC aligned with the recommendation of the PDP National Zoning Committee that the Presidential Election should now be left open,” PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba disclosed.
Furthermore, Ologunagba stated that the party will conduct of the Presidential Primary (Special National Convention) to elect the party’s presidential candidate on Saturday May 28 and Sunday May 29, 2022 in Abuja.
Among the PDP aspirants are former vice president, Atiku Abubakar; former Senate Presidents, Bukola Saraki and Pius Anyim; former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi; Bauchi and Sokoto State Governors, Bala Mohammed and Aminu Tambuwal.
Others ae River State Governor, Nyesom Wike; publisher, Dele MomodU; former banker, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen; pharmacist, Sam Ohabunwa, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom and the only female presidential aspirant, Olivia Tariela.
Also eyeing the presidency are former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose; a lawyer, Charles Okwudili; Chikwendu Kalu and Cosmos Ndukwe.
