[BREAKING] 2023: Tinubu’s top ally and Campaign DG dumps APC

As the 2023 presidential election approaches, a former House of Representatives member, Abdulmumin Jibrin, on Saturday evening announced that he is exiting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Jibrin, the Director-General (DG) of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Support Groups Management Council (ABATSGMC), said he will announce his new political party by tomorrow (Sunday).

It is not yet clear the reason for Jibrin’s sudden action. He had tweeted about eight hours earlier, describing the APC as “our great party”.

“I have done my best for APC. It’s time to move on. I will announce my new political party within the next 24 hours insha Allah. I will make a formal statement in due course,” he wrote on his verified Twitter handle.

Jibrin was first elected into the Nigerian National Assembly’s House of Representatives representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal constituency of Kano State under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2011 before decamping to the newly formed APC in 2014 and was later re-elected into House of Representatives in 2015.

In March 2015, he contested and got re-elected to the House of Representatives by the people of his constituency. He was an aspirant for the Speakership of the House but later stepped down for Yakubu Dogara, who went on to win, and emerged Speaker of the 8th Assembly.

Jibrin who had initially been re-elected to his parliamentary seat in the 2019 elections lost in the re-run held in January 2020. He polled 13,587 votes, losing to the PDP’s candidate Ali Datti-Yako who had 48,601 votes.
