A tragic motor accident at the Mabushi Bridge in Abuja on Wednesday has claimed the lives of a man, his wife, and their two children after an altercation with suspected roadside touts, commonly known as ‘agbero’.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the incident occurred when the man, who was driving his family in a private vehicle, stopped at the Berger Roundabout in Wuse to pick up a relative. This reportedly angered a group of touts who accused him of violating their “rules.”
In the confrontation that followed, one of the touts allegedly forced his way into the vehicle and grabbed the steering wheel while the car was still in motion. The struggle caused the driver to lose control, and the vehicle swerved violently before crashing into a bridge pillar at Mabushi.
The impact was fatal, killing the man, his wife, and their children instantly. In a swift response, residents in the area quickly chased and rounded up three of the thugs, beat them up and set them ablaze.
