Embattled Police Chief, Abba Kyari will remain in detention for 2 weeks, POLITICS NIGERIA has gathered.
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted a request by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to further detain him and his suspected accomplices for 14 days.
Justice Zainab Abubakar approved the detention order while ruling in an ex-parte application argued by the NDLEA counsel, Mike Kassa.
Kyari, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus will now spend 14 days in an NDLEA facility in Abuja pending the conclusion of investigations. These the two drug dealers were arrested at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, on Jan. 19 and are suspected accomplices of Kyari.
The judge ordered that the 14 days further detention should start counting from February 22.
The NDLEA had filed for the extension to enable its operatives investigate and quiz Kyari on his dealings with the drug barons.
It will be recalled that the disgraced police officer has been in detention since last week after he was declared wanted by the anti-drug agency. He was arrested by the police and handed over to the agency after he was discovered to be a member of a transnational drug ring.
