BREAKING: Abdullahi Adamu ‘Resigns’ as APC Chairman

There are confirmations that the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has resigned from his position.

Politics Nigeria understands from credible sources that Adamu tendered his resignation letter to Presidential Villa, Abuja, ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s return from the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya.

A source stated that Adamu’s resignation letter was to the chief of staff of the president, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Sunday, July 16.

“He has resigned,” a reliable source said. “The resignation letter signed by him has been sent to the villa. The letter was addressed to President Tinubu. But since the president is away in Kenya for the AU meeting, the letter was sent to his chief of staff.”

Confirming this, another source close to Adamu disclosed: “The national chairman resigned following a gang up by people around the president to embarrass him during the meetings of the party slated for tomorrow and Wednesday.”

Why Adamu resigned – Source reveals

However, the source denied claims that Adamu resigned on President Tinubu’s order ahead of the APC’s National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings fixed for the 18th and 19th of July.

Yet another source, who is an APC bigwig, revealed that Adamu resigned when he got wind that two influential personalities around the president had mobilised against him ahead of the meetings.

The unnamed APC chieftain noted:

“He resigned because they have started to collate signatures to impeach him during the forthcoming meetings. He resigned to save himself from humiliation.”
