Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari has reacted to the current #EndSARS Protests rocking the country with a simple but powerful message on her Twitter Page.
The First Lady shared a video showing her husband, President Muhammadu Buhari and service chiefs having a roundtable meeting, accompanying it with a statement ‘#Achechijamaa’, which translates to ‘#SavethePeople’.
This is Mrs. Buhari’s first statement ever since the #EndSARS Protests began although she did not explicitly state who the message was directed to. The Nigerian Government has been under pressure since the protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS), a notorious unit of the Nigerian police force known for extra-judicial killings and extortion, began.
On October 12th, the president called for solid police reform and shortly after the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu announced the disbandment of the controversial unit. This however has not quelled the protests that have now spread all over the country.
