Senate President Godswill Akpabio and some National Assembly members, including the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and Senator Simon Lalong, arrived in Abidjan to support Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of their quarter-final match against Angola at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Recall that the principal officers and members of the joint sports committees on Thursday announced plans to travel to Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire, to cheer the team on to victory.
This development follows the Super Eagles’ impressive 2-0 win over Cameroon in the previous round, securing their spot in the quarter-finals.
Senator Kawu Sumaila, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and disclosed the lawmakers’ support.
“I am pleased with the Nigerian team’s performance at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations,” he said. “The principal officers of the National Assembly and the two Committees on Sports will also be in Cote d’Ivoire to watch the quarterfinals against Angola.”
The Senator also addressed the ongoing speculation surrounding Coach Jose Peseiro’s future. “We will look at it after the competition; I am sure of victory for the Super Eagles against Angola,” he said.
