BREAKING: APC Governors Back Tinubu on Fuel Subsidy Removal

Despite the increase in the price of petrol, the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) has declared support for the removal of petrol subsidy by the Bola Tinubu administration.

Politics Nigeria reports that the governors supported the removal during a courtesy call on President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday, June 2.

However, the governors voiced their concern over the sudden hike in petrol prices following the president’s inaugural speech.

This was disclosed by Imo state governor Hope Uzodimma, who spoke with journalists after the meeting with the president.

Uzodinma, the PGF chairman, called on Nigerians to rally behind the government’s decision to remove fuel subsidy.

Recall that following confirmation of fuel subsidy removal by President Tinubu’s administration, marketers and operators increased the petrol pump price to N210-N500 per litre.

In his inaugural speech, Tinubu said since the Buhari administration did not budget for fuel subsidies in the second half of the year, the payment is gone for good.

The speech immediately caused panic buying and fuel queues resurfaced nationwide.
