Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP – Abia South), has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has done nothing for the South-east region.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Friday, the Abia Senator disclosed that the APC has been unfair to the region adding that all the region wants is ‘justice and equity’. He opined that if the Presidency is leaving from the north and coming to the south, then the South-East must be given a chance.
He also condemned the Muhammadu Buhari-led government for clamping down on #EndSARS protesters and labelling them terrorists. He asked the federal government to own up to its mistakes during the protests which led to widespread violence and destruction of lives and properties.
Abaribe noted that the #EndSARS protests showed the failure of the APC government and how it could not handle such a delicate matter. He said the present government is mired in the past and has no connection to the 21st century and the information age.
He accused the the current administration of using propaganda to get to power and now blocking Nigerians from speaking through its agencies. The lawmaker also berated Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State for claiming that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been unfair to the Southeast. He opined that the governor has another agenda for defecting to the APC and not because of the alleged injustice meted out to the Igbos.
“The governor is free to leave for any party but he should stop blackmailing the PDP and its leadership”.
He noted that the governor does not have the support of the members of the National Assembly from the state who are the true representatives of the people. He further revealed that Umahi’s defection will be gauged in the 2023 general elections, urging Nigerians not to place value on the movement of the governor to the APC.
