BREAKING: APC slams Pat Utomi over ‘shadow government’ declaration

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at Professor Pat Utomi, describing him as an “intellectual drama king” following his May 5 announcement of a “Big Tent Coalition Shadow Government.”

In a statement issued today by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party said Utomi’s comments were a mix of political opportunism and reckless rhetoric.

The party accused the former Labour Party chieftain of exaggerating the state of the nation and making inflammatory comparisons between Nigeria’s democracy and Hitler’s fascist Germany.

Morka said: “The suggestion that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is suppressing opposing views is simply preposterous.

“Utomi’s unilateral declaration of a shadow government is, in itself, proof that democratic freedoms are alive and well.”

APC also dismissed Utomi’s criticism of government economic policies, including fuel subsidy removal, reminding Nigerians that both Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar had campaigned on ending the subsidy in 2023.

The party said Utomi had failed to offer credible alternatives and accused him of leveraging public hardship for political mileage.

The APC said the growing movement into the party was a “clear endorsement” of President Tinubu’s vision and inclusive leadership.

The party concluded by mocking Utomi’s repeated failed political ventures, labelling his latest coalition attempt as “dead on arrival.”
