Barely 24 hours after openly expressing regret for supporting Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in the 2019 elections, Alhaji Iliyasu Ibrahim Moro, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been suspended indefinitely by the party.
Iliyasu, who spoke on Monday during a live program, described his support for AbdulRazaq as a grave mistake for the people of Kwara State.
He lamented that if they had anticipated the trajectory of governance under the governor, they would have rejected his candidacy from the outset.
He further noted that the party’s celebrated ‘O to ge’ struggle has failed to deliver on its promises.
In response, the APC has suspended Ibrahim, disclosing this in a statement issued on Tuesday through Jimoh Raji, Chairman of the Oloru APC in Moro Local Government Area.
The statement emphasised that, in line with the party’s constitution regarding discipline and misconduct, and after considering Iliyasu’s alleged anti-party and anti-government activities over the past one and a half years, the party stakeholders and executive committee decided to suspend him indefinitely.
The statement read, “In accordance with the relevant provisions of our Party constitution on discipline and misconduct of various kinds, and after due consideration of all the anti-party, anti-government activities, and conduct on the part of Hon. Iliasu Ibrahim from Oloru Ward of Moro Local Government Area in the last one and half years, we the APC Stakeholders and Excos have decided to suspend Hon. Iliasu Ibrahim in definitely.
“We hope the State Exco will uphold and ratify the action.”
On Monday, Ibrahim had openly expressed regret for supporting Governor AbdulRazaq in 2019.
Ibrahim, father of former Kwara State Commissioner for Works, Engineer Ilyasu (2019–2023), accused the governor of obstructing development projects meant for Kwarans.
He alleged that, rather than supporting these initiatives, the governor actively worked to prevent their execution.
Calling for fairness and equity ahead of the 2027 elections, the politician urged Kwarans to give Kwara North, particularly Moro Local Government Area, a fair chance at leadership.
He condemned the alleged marginalisation of the Moro people, who, despite their consistent support, are reportedly often denied the opportunity to contest key positions due to their affiliation with the Yoruba-speaking Ilorin Emirate.
In Kwara North, the Moro Local Government Area is the only predominantly Yoruba-speaking community, while the other areas are mainly Fulani, Nupe, Baruba, and other ethnic groups.
He argued that this has consistently prevented the Moro people from accessing important political positions in the region.
Regarding the N33 billion Kwara Hotel rehabilitation project, Ibrahim described it as a scheme to siphon public funds, asserting that even constructing a new hotel across the entire GRA would not incur such costs.
He also criticised the alleged mismanagement of palliative rice by the state APC chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, claiming that only 40 bags per ward were distributed, falling short of the mandated 50 bags.
