The All Progressives Congress (APC) has withdrawn from Bakura State Constituency bye-election rerun in Zamfara state scheduled for Wednesday.
POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that the withdrawal was over what the party described as ‘Biasness’ from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammad Magaji, the publicity secretary of the Zamfara chapter of the party, in a statement to journalists on Tuesday evening in Gusau, disclosed that it will not be participating in the supplementary elections.
“All Progressives Congress APC in Zamfara state is hereby informing members of the general public that it will not participate in the said supplementary election,” he said.
He revealed that the APC sent a message to INEC on the need to shift the electoral exercise to a more convenient date following violence and gross misconduct that marred Saturday’s elections. He lamented that the commission ignored their concerns and still went ahead to schedule the exercise of December 9th.
“Our representatives had attended the meeting organized by INEC at its Gusau Zamfara state office on Monday 7th December to fine tune the measures put in place for the conduct of the said supplementary election.”
“The meeting which was supposed to be attended by the security agencies in the state because of their pivotal role as critical stakeholders in the exercise neither their heads nor their representatives attended the meeting,” he said.
It will be recalled that Saturday’s bye-election in Bakura LGA was declared inconclusive due to widespread intimidation, harassment, maiming and Violence.
