An Appeal Court sitting in Lagos has upheld the election of Francis Nwifuru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Ebonyi State in the March 18 gubernatorial poll.
The three-member panel, presided over by Justice Jummai Sankey, dismissed the appeal filed by Chukwuma Odii of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), challenging the validity of Nwifuru’s election.
In a unanimous decision, the court resolved all five issues raised by the PDP in favour of Nwifuru, ruling that the appeal lacked merit and should be dismissed.
Justice Sankey, in her lead judgment, said that the PDP and its candidate had no legal standing to interfere in the internal affairs of the APC, particularly regarding the nomination of candidates.
