Appeal Court Gives Judgement on PDP’s Appeal Against Edo Gov Okpebholo’s Victory

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has given its ruling on the 2024 Edo State governorship election, upholding the victory of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a ruling delivered on Thursday, a three-man panel of justices dismissed the appeal filed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, challenging Okpebholo’s declaration as the winner of the September 24, 2024 poll.

Reading the lead judgment, Justice Mohammed Danjuma said the appeal is devoid of merit. He further noted that the PDP and its flagbearer failed to demonstrate any miscarriage of justice in the earlier ruling of the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, which had thrown out their petition.

According to Justice Danjuma, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) validly conducted the election and rightly returned Okpebholo as the duly elected governor.
