Appeal Court set to deliver judgement on Ogun governorship election today

The Court of Appeal in Lagos State is set to deliver judgment on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate Ladi Adebutu’s petition against Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State today.

This is said to have caused palpable tension among members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and those of the opposition PDP in the state.

Adebutu, the PDP flag bearer in the 2023 general elections,, had approached the tribunal to challenge the victory of Abiodun in the March 18 governorship election.

He had alleged that the election Abiodun did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act, claiming that the election was marred with irregularities and corrupt practices.

He added that over 40,000 voters were disenfranchised due to violence.

He asked the court to nullify the election and declare him the winner, but the tribunal upheld the governor’s election.

According to Sahara Reporters, the sitting has started at the Court of Appeal in Igbosere, Lagos.
