A group of armed men stormed the Nigerian High Commission on Friday, demolishing a large section of the building.

It was gathered that the men, who came with bulldozers, demolished a set of apartments built to house staff and visiting diplomats. This newspaper learned that a Ghanaian businessman, who brought the men, claimed that the building encroached on his land.

He had earlier visited the commission with evidence that he owned the land upon which the building was constructed. On Friday morning, he led the armed men to the site to supervise the demolition.

Earlier this year, rumours of a breakdown in diplomatic relations between Nigeria and Ghana went viral on social media but was later debunked by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ferdinand Nwonye.

He stated that ‘there was no diplomatic row between Nigeria and Ghana’. The Ghanaian government is yet to issue a statement on the matter.
