BREAKING: Army kills 55 bandits close to Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna

The Nigerian military on Thursday said its recent offensive against terrorists known locally as bandits, close to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna State led to the death of 55 of the lawbreakers.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that at a press briefing by the Directorate of Defence Media Operations on Armed Forces of Nigeria’s military operations held at the Defence Headquarters’ new Conference Room, Army said under its Operation Thunder Strike/Whirl Punch, it engaged 75 bandits in “a fierce battle” around Labi general area along the Kaduna – Birnin Gwari road in South of Damari in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Although the Nigerian Army did not mention the exact date the battle against the bandits happened, this newspaper gathered that it occurred a fortnight ago.

The air component carried out air interdiction on terrorist/bandits enclaves in South of Damari after an air reconnaissance missions on terrorist/bandits enclaves, The air interdiction neutralised several armed terrorists close to the NDA.

The armed bandits numbering about 75 engaged ground troops in a fierce battle around Labi general area along the Kaduna – Birnin Gwari road. The bandits came under heavy airstrikes which aided the ground forces to effectively engage the bandits and neutralised them. Consequently, the operation resulted in the neutralisation of a total of 55 bandits.

Recall that gunmen, suspected to be armed bandits, invaded NDA in June 2021. During the previous attack, a Nigerian Army captain was abducted as the criminals shot two soldiers dead.
