A prominent boardroom guru and Lagos-based lawyer, Asue Ighodalo, has officially joined the Edo State governorship race under the Peoples Democratic Party.
Ighodalo, 64, is a former chairman of Sterling Bank Plc and Nigeria Breweries Plc.
He declared his intention on Wednesday in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
He is married to Ifeyinwa, founder of multimillion furniture firm Design Options and the board chairman of a popular non-profit organisation WIMBIZ.
He is also a brother to the Senior Pastor of Trinity House and a famous accountant, Ituah Ighodalo.
Ighodalo hails from Ewohimi in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo Central District.
He is believed to be backed by the outgoing governor, Godwin Obaseki, who has served his constitutional two-term limit.
Foremost leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have already adopted him as their preferred governorship aspirant ahead of the party’s primary election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed September 21 as the date for the governorship election.
