The African Union (AU) has disclosed that it is holding a meeting on the crisis in Niger following the coup on July 26 that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum.
“AU’s Peace & Security Council meets to receive an update on the evolution of the situation in Niger and the efforts to address it,” the regional body said in a tweet on Monday.
It was gathered that those attending the meeting include AU Commission chief, Moussa Faki Mahamat, representatives from Niger and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Recall that Niger Republic’s military junta had said that it is open for dialogue aimed at returning order peace and possibly democratic rule in the West African country.
The junta’s position came on the heels of the visit of a religious delegation sent on Sunday, August 13, by Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
