Bandits in very large numbers attacked Nigerian Army troops stationed around Rafin Taba in Giwa Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State and killed 11 soldiers.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the terrorists also wounded about 20 of the security personnel.
In the daring attack on Monday, Kaduna State Vigilance Service members were also murdered.
Several equipments were damaged in the attack that lasted hours. Report stated that aside attacking in large numbers, the bandits were armed with heavy armament including Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPGs), explosives and special weapons.
This newspaper understands that troops have mobilized heavy reinforcements and are on the trail of the bandits.
A military source said: “We lost 11 men while 19 soldiers were wounded in action, after they overwhelmed the troops. They also burnt down 3 Armoured Personal Curriers (APCs) after they overwhelmed the troops.
“The bandit also carted away several weapons.”
The wounded soldiers were evacuated to Birnin Gwari General Hospital and 271 Nigerian Airforce Medical Center while those who paid the supreme price were evacuated to the 44 Nigerian Army Reference Hospital Kaduna (44 NARHK), in Kaduna.
