BREAKING: Bandits release village head [PHOTO]

Terrorists, known locally as ‘bandits’ have released Alhaji Bishir Gide Banye, the village head of Banye in Charanchi Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State, after spending 26 days in their captivity, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, hails from Katsina state.

Recall that Alhaji Banye, the village head of Banye in the Charanchi LGA, was abducted by gunmen in mid-October.

The traditional leader was kidnapped alongside a secondary school student.

At the time, a resident of the town said that the heavily armed attackers invaded the town in the night and went straight to the palace of the village head.

Banye, though in Charanchi Local Government Area, was affected by the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) network shutdown in Kurfi Local Government Area of Katsina State, due to its proximity to the area.

The network blackout afforded the attackers the opportunity to carry out the abduction unchallenged as residents could not alert security agents.

It was the second abduction of a village head in the area, after the abduction of the village head of Barkiya town.

The village head of Barkiya was however lucky to be rescued as security operatives were alerted and they trailed the kidnappers.
