The Bauchi State government has confirmed another case of coronavirus, bringing the number of cases in the state to two.
State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aliyu Maigoro, announced this during a press conference on Thursday.
According to Maigoro, the first case is Governor Bala Mohammed while the second case is a 62-year-old male and a close friend of the governor.
Maigoro explained that 48 samples were taken for test and two have been confirmed positive.
The commissioner added that 37 others returned negative while the results of nine samples were still pending.
The commissioner noted that the State Ministry of Health has since begun the contact tracing of the second case.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the governor is currently in isolation after testing positive for the disease.
The governor earlier said he came in contact with Mohammed, the son of former Vice-President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.
On Sunday evening, Atiku announced that his son has been tested positive for the coronavirus infection.
Ladan Salihu, the Chief of staff to the governor, had said Mohammed had gone into Isolation after he shook hands with Atiku’s son.
He noted that they were on the same flight from Lagos to Abuja and that the Governor alongside his team members, has taken tests. The results of the tests yet to be released.

“Yes. We were on the same flight from Lagos to Abuja. They shook hands and exchanged pleasantries. The Gov and the rest of us have taken tests. The results will be negative in sha Allah, “Ladan Salihu posted on his Twitter account.
