Bauchi state police command has banned street celebrations, roadblocks, and provocative statements by political party supporters following the anticipated judgment from the Court of Appeal on the gubernatorial election petition.
Police spokesperson in the stte, SP Ahmed Wakil declared that all rallies or celebratory gatherings related to the Gubernatorial Election Petition judgment scheduled for Friday, November 17, 2023, are prohibited.
He said the directive aims to prevent any disruptions or tensions between supporters of the ruling party, represented by Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, and the opposition party, with its flag bearer, Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar (rtd).
While acknowledging the right to celebrate, Wakil stated that supporters adhering to the law is paramount.
“All forms of celebrations and rallies by political party supporters for or against winners/losers of the Gubernatorial Election Petition judgement from Court of Appeal Abuja Division between the ruling party with the flag bearer Sen. Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir and the opposition party with its flag bearer Air Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar which is slated to take place on Friday 17th November 2023 must not infringe on the right of others.
“Moreover, the blissful supporters must comport themselves in line with the provisions of the law; blockage of roads, fireworks, and inciting utterances or blackmailing the opposition party would not be condoned,” he said.
The Command said it would not hesitate to deal with any person or group who violates the order “or deliberately causes the breakdown of law and order in whatever manner.”
