His defection was announced on Tuesday during plenary by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the session.

In a letter read on the floor of the House, Ojotu attributed his decision to the lingering crisis within the PDP, saying it had become untenable to remain in the party.

“After consulting with my constituents, family members, and political associates, I have decided to leave the PDP for the APC,” he stated.

This comes amid widespread defections as several Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members continue to abandon the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing internal crises and leadership tussles within the opposition party.
