BREAKING: Binani ‘loses’ as INEC set to declare Fintiri winner of Adamawa election

Ahmadu Fintiri is expected to be returned elected as the Governor of Adamawa State.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that following the recount of the votes from Furfore Local Government Area (LGA), Governor Fintiri, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defeated Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, commonly called Binani, in the March 18 election. Binani is the flag-bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and was on course to be the first elected female governor in Nigeria.

The Collation Officer announced the result of the final LGA, Fufore LGA amid tight security. While the APC scored 24, 777 votes, the PDP garnered 20, 777 votes in the local government, meaning Binani did not get enough vote to overtake the 36,000 deficit to win the election as the governor of Adamawa State.

According to the results of the 21 LGAs of Adamawa State announced by INEC, Fintiri won 13 LGA, while Binani secured 8.

Based on unofficial results, Governor Fintiri polled a total of 421,524 votes; Binani had 390, 275 votes.

As of the time of publishing this report, results computation for declaration is in progress and INEC is expected to declare Governor Fintiri winner of the election.
