Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have invaded the Council headquarters of Damboa in Borno State, shooting heavily as they engaged Nigerian security forces.
The insurgents reportedly stormed the community at about 5:30 pm. Many people were feared dead and several others injured (including the terrorists). Properties were also said to have been set ablaze.
The District Head of Damboa, Zanna Lawan Maina confirmed the invasion, but maintained that he could not give full details yet, because the only telecommunication service (Airtel) available was not clear enough for accessing communication with residents. POLITICS NIGERIA scooped that terrified civilians fled towards Sambisa forest area.
“Yes some armed Boko Haram terrorists invaded Damboa this evening, I am not in the town as I am away for an official engagement.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get access to the only existing telecommunication service provided by Airtel to ascertain the condition as of the time of the incident,” Vanguard quotes Maina as saying.
