President Muhammadu Buhari has officially announced the appointment of Professor Ibrahim Gambari as his new Chief of Staff.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha, made the announcement before the commencement of the virtual Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday.
Professor Gambari’s appointment comes after the death of the former Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, who died of coronavirus (COVID-19) complications on April 17, 2020.
The renowned diplomat had served as the Minister for External Affairs between 1984 and 1985.
Before his announcement as the new CoS, Gambari had arrived at Aso Villa at about 10:53 am and was welcomed by the State House Permanent Secretary, Mr Tijani Umar, and some senior presidency directors.
Before gaining entrance to the main building, Mr Gambari was screened for COVID–19. His temperature was also checked and was asked to use a hand sanitizer.
He was then conducted around the State House facilities by Umar, before being led to the chamber or FEC meeting.
