Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari is currently locked in a meeting with Nigeria’s Security Chiefs in the Presidential Villa.
The meeting is holding a few hours after a major clash between Police Officers and members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria also known as Shiites, who were protesting against the continued detention of their leader, Shiekh Ibrahim Elzakzaky.
The meeting began at 4 pm. Meanwhile, the Nigerian police force has since issued a statement on the incident. Signed by Police PRO, DCP Frank Mba, the statement read;
“There is a violent protest currently ongoing by members of the El-Zakzakky Group in some parts of the FCT – particularly the Central Business District and the Three Arms Zone.”
“The Police are taking adequate measures to bring the situation under control. Citizens are advised to remain calm and avoid the affected areas in the interim. The Police will keep the public abreast with further development.”
