BREAKING: Buhari’s Body Arrives Daura Residence, Set for Burial

The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have arrived at his Daura residence in Katsina State, where he will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

The late Nigerian leader, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, in a London hospital at the age of 81, was flown back to the country on Tuesday. His body was accompanied by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, his widow Aisha Buhari, and other members of his immediate family.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu received the remains at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina at about 1:50 p.m., following his arrival from Abuja at 1:41 p.m. The President, joined by dignitaries including Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló, Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Lamine Zeine, former Nigerien President Issoufou Mahamadou, and Nigeria’s former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, observed a solemn reception ceremony.

A Nigerian Air Force aircraft conveyed the body, which was received with full military honours. The casket, draped in the national colours, was carried by a team of nine senior military officers. The pallbearers included Major-General Mohammed Usman, Major-General Oluwafemi Williams, Major-General Shuaibu Nudu, Rear Admiral Suleiman Dahun, Rear Admiral Jonathan Ajodo, Rear Admiral Samuel Ngatuwa, Air Vice Marshal Adeniyi Herbert Amesinlola, Air Vice Marshal Idi Sanni, and Air Vice Marshal Obinna Obiabaka. The procession was coordinated by Major General Mike Alechenu.

At late Buhari’s residence, a funeral prayer, to be led by the Chief Imam of Katsina State, will precede the burial.
