BREAKING: Clashes reported as Shi’ite members stage pro-Palestine protest in Abuja

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ites, have taken to the streets of Abuja to mark the International Qudus in solidarity with Palestine.

According to reports, the protesters defied heavy security presence, which resulted in clashes with security forces.

Following the Juma’at prayer at the National Mosque, Shi’ite members assembled in large numbers, brandishing placards with slogans such as “Freedom For Palestine” and “Death to Israel.”

The protesters, undeterred by the surrounding armed security agents, expressed their support for Palestinians who have been facing conflict with Israel.

Yahaya Suleiman, a member of the group, emphasized that the rally aimed to condemn Israel’s occupation of Palestine and show solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for justice.

However, tensions escalated as clashes erupted between the protesters and Nigerian Police.

Abdullahi Musa, Spokesperson of the Academic Forum of the Movement, condemned the police’s use of force, asserting the group’s right to practice their religious beliefs without hindrance.

Despite the violence, the protesters continued their march towards the Wuse Market area, waving Palestinian national flags and chanting anti-government slogans.
