The Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has warned that the military is on standby and will intervene if necessary to prevent criminals from hijacking the ongoing End Bad Governance protests.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Friday, Musa commended the police for their efforts so far and assured that the armed forces are closely monitoring the situation.
Musa urged calm and encouraged citizens to provide information on any suspicious activities.
He said that the military will not allow non-state actors to hijack the protests.
He said, “We have engaged with various stakeholders to maintain peace, but we can’t read the human mind, and we’ve seen criminals try to hijack the protest, which we won’t allow.”
The Defence Chief also addressed speculation about another protest planned for October 1st. According to him, “Those are just speculations, and we are making efforts to ensure everywhere is secure.”
The protests which began on Thursday and is scheduled to last ten days, have continued across major cities in the country.
