BREAKING: DSS speaks on alleged arrest of Channels TV presenters

The Department of State Services (DSS) has described as fake news Thursday’s reports that Channels TV presenters, Chamberlain Usoh and Kayode Okikiolu were arrested.

Reacting, the spokesperson of the agency, Dr. Peter Afunanya said according to Vanguard that no Channels TV presenters were arrested as purportedly reported by a section of the media on Thursday.

POLITICS NIGERIA understands that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) – not the DSS summoned the Channels TV crew on Thursday.

Usoh and Okikiolu – hosts of Sunrise Daily on Channels Television – left the NBC office this evening (Thursday). With them was their colleague Esther Maupe Ogun-Yusuf.

Channels TV had ran into trouble with Nigerian authorities on account of their interview with Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State on Tuesday. Ortom had seriously lambasted the Federal Government, prompting the NBC to issue a query letter to Channels on Thursday.

Although Channels did conduct an interview with another government critic, Kunle Olawunmi, a former Navy Commodore, NBC did not cite that conversation in its query letter to the broadcast house.

  1. This Buhari’s govt is a shameless one that doesn’t want anybody to critisize them. Must DSS arrest everyone that ask Buhari question. Yet the so called bandits are walking free into army barracks and kidnapping officers and nobody is challeniging them

  2. What is happening to Nigeria? is it now a crime to criticize an ailing government that would tolerate bandits, kidnappers, rapists, killer herdsmen, arsonists, terrorists and their sponsors to walk the streets, inhabit the forests, raid military barracks almost unchallenged and with impunity; yet sanctions an active, patriotic governor championing the cause of his beleaguered citizens; go after journalist for daring to interview critics of the government? They wat all of us to be minions, like his VP, his ministers, advisers, senators, representatives, even governors who would not dare look the president in the face but acquiescence and tell him only what he wants to hear. I even doubt if ever the president sends these minions to do what they are doing; the president is too aloof to be bothered. The national assembly represents our greatest problem; they have the power to get the president defend these actions or inactions that now plague Nigeria. God help this dear land.

  3. How did we get here???? So,Nigerian has no right to tell what they know or have seen or heard?should TV stations only interview the like of Lia Muhammed and femi kayode who on daily basis tell lies that even their current are ashame to hear? Is there anything wrong in telling the many uncountable wrongs by this government against their citizens? Nigeria, is at her last lane and the earlier the evil steps are retraced or stopped the better fir the nation
