Barr. Asue Ighodalo, a prominent aspirant for the governorship under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, narrowly escaped a potentially fatal motor accident on Saturday evening.
The aspirant’s personal vehicle was struck by a trailer without license plates on Sapele Road, causing significant damage and forcing the vehicle off the road.
Eyewitnesses describe the scene as reminiscent of an action movie, as the trailer, attempting to flee the scene, collided with a motorcycle, rendering it inoperable.
The driver abandoned the damaged trailer, disappearing into the nearby cluster of backstreets.
Remarkably, Barr. Ighodalo emerged unscathed from the incident, sparking suspicions of a targeted attack on the political frontrunner.
The boardroom guru-turned-politician had attended the burial ceremony of the Commissioner for Digital Economy, Science and Technology, Ogbeide Ifaluyi-Isibor, before the incident.
It is believed that his visibility on social media, particularly in his distinctive white campaign bus, may have made him a recognizable target.
Law enforcement has detained the trailer and is actively pursuing the unidentified driver.
The incident is now being treated as an assassination attempt, prompting heightened security measures for Barr. Ighodalo.
