Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has publicly declared his support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, ahead of the crucial Edo State governorship election slated for September 21, 2024.
Bashir, known for his outspoken views on national politics, took to social media to express his endorsement of Ighodalo, a significant move considering his father’s longstanding ties to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In his statement on X, Bashir wrote, “Asue Ighodalo. Edo state.”
The endorsement has raised eyebrows in political circles, as it is rare for a member of the El-Rufai family, traditionally associated with the APC, to throw support behind an opposition candidate.
Ighodalo, a former board chairman of Sterling Bank has been gaining momentum in his campaign in the last few days.
