Aminu Bayero, the deposed Emir of Kano, is currently receiving district heads inside the Nassarawa palace, despite his removal.
The meeting comes 24 hours after Muhammadu Sanusi, who was reinstated as Emir, hosted a separate group of district heads in his palace on Sunday.
The district heads visiting Bayero are not loyal to Sanusi, indicating a factional divide within the Kano Emirate Council.
The reinstatement of Sanusi last Thursday has plunged Kano into a state of crisis, with loyalties split between the two figures.
The situation intensified on Saturday when Bayero returned to Kano to a hero’s welcome from a throng of his supporters.
However, the celebration was short-lived as Abba Yusuf, the Kano State governor, ordered Bayero’s arrest for allegedly “disturbing the peace.”
The return of Sanusi to the throne has been met with mixed reactions. While some hail his reinstatement as a rectification of past injustices, others view it as a catalyst for further instability in the state.
